Reduction of CO2 emissions in 2012

During 2012 the benefits in terms of reduction of CO2 emissions were mainly due to the installation of new “zero emission” production units. The provisional figure for power installed from renewable sources in 2012 is presented below.

Energy source power installed - MW
Wind  ~8,000
Photovoltaic  ~17,000
Total 25,000

From the 2012 provisional figures it can be seen that in 2012 gross production using wind and photovoltaic energy increased by approximately 12,000 GWh; this figure corresponds to a reduction of approximately 6,600 kt of CO27

(7) Considering a conversion coefficient of 0.550 tCO2/MWh and assuming that the newly installed renewable capacity replaces an equivalent thermoelectric capacity.
